“But I’m Not Gay”: What Straight Teachers Need to Know About Queer Theory | Elizabeth J. Meyer’s article describes how the persistence of homophobia and the related tool of sexism in schools harm everyone in the community and how gender codes work to limit the opportunities available to students and teachers in schools and society, addresses the concepts of language and discourse and how understanding this form of power is essential to understanding how to transform school cultures and explains several of the key ideas in Queer Theory that are most relevant to educators working in schools today.

ALLIES Scholarship for Student Leadership Development | Recipients must show documented leadership, support or involvement in organizations, activities or issues that promote awareness and acceptance of the GLBT community at Northern Michigan University (further down on the page)
Casey Hoke Memorial Scholarship | Selection criteria include non-cis-gendered person, entering post-secondary education (trade school, university, community college), leader or advocate in your community. No age, income, citizenship, or academic requirements.
CFPCA LGBT Endowed Scholarship | Demonstrate positive sensitivity to and involvement in LGBT issues. Preference is given to LGBT students, although all students are invited to apply. Only available to Wayne State University students in the CFPCA (College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts)
Colin Higgins Youth Courage Awards | $10,000 individual grants to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, two-spirit, queer and questioning youth activists (through age 20) who have transformed their experiences with bigotry and discrimination into opportunities to inspire others by taking action, rallying support, building community, and working to change the systems and institutions that impact their lives
Edie Windsor Coding Scholarship | LGBTQ or gender nonconforming and want to learn how to code
Equality Leadership Fund Scholarship | Residents of Utah who have demonstrated leadership in the LGBTQ rights movement. Applicants must be graduating from or have graduated from a Utah high school with a GPA of 3.0 or above; admitted to or currently attending a two- or four-year accredited college, university, or vocational/technical school in the state of Utah; show leadership to the cause of rights and recognition for LGBTQ people; and demonstrate financial need
eQuality Scholarship | Resident of northern or central California + other requirements
First Friday Breakfast Club Scholarship | Iowa high seniors who fight homophobia and educate their schools and/or communities about LGBT issues. Academic excellence, extracurricular activities, and community involvement also factor into the awards
First in the Family Humanist Scholarship | High school students within the Los Angeles Unified School District and are accepted into two or four-year colleges regardless of if they are religious or not. Preference is given to students of color (Black/African American, Latino(a), Asian/Pacific Islander, Native American) who are (or have been) in foster care, homeless, undocumented and/or LGBTQ (system involved youth applicants are also welcome)
Frankel-Adair Scholarship | Post-secondary education to an LGBT student residing in the Greater Philadelphia area
Gamma Mu Foundation Scholarships | Gay male (or LGBT student for the “Folisi & Goodwin Scholarship) under 35 years of age at time of application + other requirements
GAPA Foundation Scholarship | API LGBTQ students who are in the process of applying or are currently attending a post-secondary institution
Grand Valley State University LGBT Scholarship | Demonstrate positive sensitivity to and involvement in LGBT issues, to promote visibility of LGBT life and to foster service and activism in the larger community. Preference is given to LGBT students. It is open to both undergraduate and graduate students of GVSU
IES Merit-Based David Porter Diversity Scholarship | Recipients must attend a private college or university that is a Member or Associate Member of the IES Abroad Consortium. In addition, your home school must have a policy of transferring at least 75% of institutional aid for study abroad
Jonathan Lax Scholarship Fund for Gay Men | Gay men who live in the five-county Philadelphia region (Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties) and Camden County, who are attending accredited colleges, graduate or professional schools anywhere, or to men attending such schools within the Philadelphia region
LEAGUE Foundation Scholarship | LGBTQ high school seniors entering their first year of institutions of higher learning
Leroy F. Aarons Scholarship Award | LGBTQ student who plans a career in journalism and is committed to furthering NLGJA’s mission of fair and accurate coverage of the LGBTQ community
